b2evolution maintained by François Planque started as a development fork of an earlier blogging tool called b2\cafelog. When development stopped on b2\cafelog in 2003, and WordPress took its place as the official successor, b2evolution was already well on it’s way.

Developed in PHP under the GNU General Public License it will setup and run on any LAMP server (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP) in a matter of minutes. All system configuration is handled through the installer or the administrative back-end.

b2evolution could easily be the most feature rich blogware available today. Here’s what’s up for grabs:

If that wasn’t enough b2evolution offers some of the best anti-spam features with a community maintained blacklist. It takes full advantage of it’s feature set by allowing you to cross-post across multiple categories and blogs.

Although it doesn’t offer a true WYSIWYG editor, b2evolution does support 4 text input methods along with helpful markup buttons to insert code quickly.

Blog access can be restricted to specific user groups or posts. The built in access rights manager can facilitate and drive user registrations by restricting the number of public posts.
